Access to year 3 of the degree and professional qualifications:

Entry to year 3 of the Clinical Physiology Degree requires:

  1. Appropriate academic entry requirements [which will be judged by education providers]
  2. Evidence of national assessed professional competence [with the exception of Cardiology]:  This will be the professional body examination in the discipline which the applicant is studying OR the NVQ level III in that particular discipline.
  3. Cardiology year 3 entrants will require the professional body examination.  The NVQ will not be acceptable.

Accreditation Guidelines for Education Providers

The Accreditation Guidelines (Updated Sept 2010) are downloadable via this link.

This document is intended for use by those delivering and accrediting courses that lead to registration in the following disciplines: Cardiology, GI Physiology, Neurophysiology, Respiratory Physiology and Audiology.

CPD Guidelines for Registrants

The CPD Guidelines (Updated November 2012) are downloadable via this link.

As part of regulation of clinical physiology practitioners will have to produce evidence of continuing professional development (CPD). This model is developed to provide a manageable, measurable yet simple method for practitioners to keep a record of all development activities which lead to the maintenance and improvement of clinical practice. It is based on reflection on and in practice and over intervals of three years. RCCP will audit 3% of CPD records every 5 years from 2005.

The next audit is due to take place in 2015. We will be contacting any registrants who are randomly selected giving them details of the process.

If you are a member of BAA and submit your CPD through their online facility and you are requested by RCCP to submit your CPD, RCCP will be happy to receive your BAA documentation.

See also Health & Care Professions Council Guidance on CPD.

Training Centre Guidelines for Students

The RCCP raining Centre Guidelines (issued by RCCP PBEC) can be downloaded via this link.

These guidelines are designed for training and assessment in the workplace of Practitioner Training Programme students following the Modernising Scientific Careers Clinical Physiology BSc Programme and are in line with the Health & Care Professions Council, or equivalent, Standards of Education and Training

These are supplemented by the discipline specific guidance below:-
